Albert​

For Shari and her family, life without a dog had its perks, but something was missing. “We had been dog-less for about a year,” Shari said, “and while there were moments of ‘hooray, we’re free,’ we missed the joy of having a family dog — love, companionship, laughs, exercise, and, of course, nightly snuggles.” When they heard about the hypoallergenic breeds arriving as part of a commercial breeding rescue transport, it presented the perfect opportunity to adopt a puppy who needed a loving home as much as they needed him.

Enter Albert. This charming pup, affectionately nicknamed “the prince,” has brought endless happiness to his new family. From his regal strut to his beloved status in the neighborhood, Albie knows he’s special. His quirky side keeps everyone entertained — like his selective hearing when caught chewing on a stick or digging a hole in the backyard.

The unconditional love Albie brings has turned every day into a competition to be his favorite. Shari added, “It’s such a joy to have a dog back in our lives and knowing there are adoptable rescue pets to suit any need, we’ll never go back to a breeder. NSALA works to find the right match for every family.”

Doby​

When Emily’s husband suggested attending SPORTIME Port Washington’s Pickle & Pups fundraiser to benefit NSALA, she had a feeling they might leave with more than just memories of pickleball. “I knew we were in trouble,” Emily said. “My husband had been watching a lot of YouTube videos of cute puppies leading up to the event!”

Although Emily and her husband had previously considered adopting a rescue for their current dog, those plans had been put on hold while their resident pet recovered from an illness earlier that year. But when they met Doby, it was love at first sight. “We hadn’t planned on adopting that day,” Emily admitted, “but Doby was perfect for us.”

Doby has made a smooth transition into his new home, bringing a boundless energy. He’s constantly playing with his new furry sibling and loves cuddling with Emily and her husband. “He’s incredibly affectionate and so smart,” Emily said. “He’s already learned to sit for treats and is working on potty training. He’s even claimed every dog bed in the house — and especially loves ours!”
