Animal League Volunteer Spotlight: Gloria Quay

Finding Purpose in Uniting Pets & People

For Gloria, the joy of seeing a once-homeless pet walk out the door with a loving family never fades. “Even after all these years, I still get excited when an older or hard-to-place animal gets adopted. That moment — that’s why I’m here.”

“I came to Animal League America and I never left,” Gloria said. “At this point I’ve done just about everything you can do as a volunteer. I’ve worked adoptions, helped behind the scenes, fostered, participated in the SPOT program, walked dogs, taught classes for new volunteers, and even joined a local rescue. There’s always something to learn, and I love that.”

Of all the roles she’s taken on, Gloria finds special fulfillment in offsite events. “I love the process from start to finish — caring for the animals, introducing them to potential adopters, and then seeing them go home with a family who adores them. It’s incredible to witness that moment when a person finds their perfect match and realizes, ‘This is my dog.’”

Gloria’s love for volunteering goes beyond the animals — it’s also about the people. “The volunteer community here is like a family. Everyone comes from different backgrounds, but we all share the same goal: to give these animals the best possible life. It’s hard work, but it’s meaningful work.”

Her passion for offsite events and her ability to place pets with the right people hasn’t gone unnoticed by those who work alongside her. “Gloria is a key part of our offsite team,” said Anthony Angioletti, Animal League America Senior Director of Offsite Programs. “She’s someone I can always count on. Gloria knows how to connect with people, and how to match them with the right animal. Her experience and dedication make a real difference at every event.”
